Who we are

Shakespeare in Detroit is celebrating more than a decade of impact since pioneering the first-ever Shakespeare in the park experience within the city's limits in 2013.

Since then, more than 30,000 audience members have seen Shakespeare in Detroit's professional productions.

In addition, the nonprofit introduced an educational program, Shakespeare STEAM, which teaches the Science of Lighting, the Technology of Sound Design, the Art of classical performance and the Mathematics of set building in 2019, embedding SiD Teaching Artists in schools to work side-by-side with educators. In 2021, SiD activated a summer conservatory as an extension of the STEAM program giving teens the opportunity to spend six-weeks training with professional artists and technicians. And they receive a scholarship at the end of their time with the nonprofit.

More than 3,000 students have benefited from Shakespeare STEAM’s in-classroom and summer conservatory programming.

The organization has been featured in Forbes magazine, Southwest airlines' former in-flight magazine, the National Endowment for the Arts, HOUR Detroit magazine and dozens of other media outlets, podcasts, etc.

Sam White, SiD's Founder, is an award-winning, critically-acclaimed, international Director, Entrepreneur and Activist with a proven-track record of measurable impact.
